Sunshine. Let’s not beat around the bush here – we all go on holiday for warmth and sunshine. Birds don’t flock south for the winter because they have a good sense of direction; it’s all about the heat! The Mediterranean has around 300 days a year of pure, beautiful sunshine and Spain is top of the list of the sunniest countries in Europe. If you’ve got a preference for ice and snow, you’ll be heading the wrong way if you head to Spain.
Beaches. Long, sandy beaches that border the Atlantic and secretive Mediterranean coves are famed throughout the western world. Lovers of sun, sea and sand can flock to the shorelines and spend lazy days enjoying the lull of the water against the heat of the sand. The beaches don’t disappoint in Spain, so plan some days of exploring them.
Mountains. On the flip side of the beautiful beaches in Spain are the mountains. Tall, towering mountains that rival those that can be found in Switzerland are right on the doorstep. You can get from the hot and sandy coast to the cool mountains in just over an hour, which is fab when you want a change of climate for a few hours!
Annual Fun. You can’t possibly head to Spain and miss out on the festivals. Check out some information on the Tomatina Festival, which draws the crowds from far and wide. Culture. If you are interested in architecture, then the Alhambra Palace in Granada is a place you need to visit. Exquisite Moorish architecture to be immersed in is something every traveller should aim for when they visit Spain. Gaudi’s ‘La Sagrada Familia’ is a modern masterpiece that cannot be missed.
