Brine is a mixture of a liquid, usually water, and salt. Since ancient times, brine solutions have been used in the preservation and preparation of food. The brine solution works well as a preservative as the salt tends to inhibit bacterial growth. It also works well as a marinade, tenderizer, and for pickling. But many people find that brine can also be beneficial to their health

Brine Baths
Brine has long been used in the sterilization of wounds due to its ability to prevent bacterial growth, but the use of salt in the bathtub has also been a popular practice. Salt water baths are thought to help detoxify the body, assist with skin disorders such as psoriasis, and boost the immune system. Many people who suffer from gout, arthritis, osteoporosis, and other joint disorders have felt pain relief after soaking in a salt bath. A salt bath may also help to improve blood circulation within the body, but may not be a good choice for those with heart conditions or high blood pressure.

Other Uses
Some people use salt water to brush their teeth to assist in treating bad breath and gingivitis, as a gargle for a sore throat, to treat foot fungus, acne, or even ear infection. Drinking a small amount of brine with purified water is also thought to have certain health benefits. The solution may assist in balancing the body’s natural pH and in removing heavy metals such as lead and mercury from the body. It is also believed to be adequate at breaking down calcium deposits that may cause bladder or kidney stones. But consuming too much salt can have negative health effects, such as bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or even kidney failure.

Brine Steam Inhalation
Inhaling brine steam, such as in a salon like, has shown to have some respiratory benefits. The treatment may minimize certain symptoms of allergies, cold or flu, chest infections, sore throat, asthma, or even respiratory disorders caused from smoking such as sinus pain, congestion, stuffiness, cough, and difficulty breathing. The inhalation of brine water steam can also be therapeutic, possibly assisting in minimizing stress.
